Our Mission Statement
“Hastings & Rother YMCA seeks to provide a welcoming and safe environment for families, children and young people in our community, accepting all in order to encourage self-worth and personal development of each individual through quality support and provision of imaginative affordable services“
What are we doing to achieve this?
To achieve this, we aim to work alongside people, be warm, welcoming and nurturing, to provide real support, to challenge disadvantage and to rescue young people in difficulty. The Charity focuses on providing a range of sports; with roller skating our USP, welfare and educational activities for children, young people and families.
Because it is located in an area of deprivation, with low incomes and high unemployment, our services are founded on recognition of these circumstances for local people. The Charity therefore aims to provide low cost and accessible services for people in the local community so that they can participate in activities which may otherwise be beyond their means or confidence to approach.
Our Volunteers
We welcome and value volunteers! Our amazing volunteers includes the Trustees, some of whom have volunteered here between 20 and 50 years!
They bring experience and stability to the Centre and take care of the all-important fundraising.
There are often openings for new volunteers in all areas so call
01424 429677, email us on ycentre2015@gmail.com
Training is given and we support those doing Duke of Edinburgh Awards.

Queens Jubilee
We were awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service 2022, the highest honor a local voluntary group can receive in the UK, which was especially meaningful during the Queen’s Jubilee year. This recognition reflects the dedication of our small team and generous volunteers who, through activities like roller skating, youth clubs, support groups, and free school holiday programs, work tirelessly to support families and young people in one of the most economically challenged wards in the country.
We have fostered a closely knit community that offers genuine warmth and mutual support. Representatives received the Award Crystal and Certificate from Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of East Sussex, and two of our volunteers attended the garden party at Buckingham Palace in May 2023.
